Welcome to the 8th/12th Harrow (St Peter's) Scout Group Website

At the moment the site is very much a case of work in progress. Look out for additions and changes in the future.

Browser Note: If you are using Internet Explorer for web browsing, consider moving to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox which are recommended for the best results when viewing this website. Both can be downloaded, free, from the internet.

The use of names identifying young people on the website: You will notice, that where names are mentioned, we use first names only. Following advice from Scouting UK, if we publish a photo we will not show names .

Social Sites Scouting links:
There are also several videos on YouTube to do with scouting. Here are a few to look at:
If you have some favourite scouting sites please let a leader know and you can share it with everyone in the group.

District Archery competition success for the 8th/12th Harrow. A team from scouts competed in the district archer competition in March and did very well by winning the Team Trophy. Individually, Macy claimed second place in the under 13 group notching up 8 golds (centre of the target) equaling the highest number of golds on the evening and in the senior group James also achieved the highest number of golds of the evening but finished second overall. Well done all of you.

Duke of Edinburgh Gold and Queens Scout Awards. Many congratulations to Nandesh & Simon, two of our scouts, who have both gained their Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award and their Queen's Scout Award. Nandesh represented the Group and District at the World Jamboree in Sweden in August. Both will parade in front of the Queen at Windsor Castle.

First girl scouts. Two young ladies (pictured left), who were invested at Scouts recently, created a little piece of group history by being the first girls to come through the group; one from Cubs and one via both Beavers and Cubs. Congratulations and welcome. We hope you have a happy and successful four years with the Troop and go on to great things.

Shop at Amazon and boost the Group kitty. The group can earn a commission on most products you purchase. Click Amazon, which will take you directly to the Amazon Home Page, where you browse, order and pay for items just as you normally would. The Amazon link contains a code by which the Amazon site recognises the group as the source of an order. If you know of any other partnerships that can benefit the group funds please let a leader know.

Two Left Wellies blog report and photos - Cycle Weekend 31st March - 1st April. http://2leftwellies.wordpress.com/. 26 people went on the 2012 cycle weekend - 14 scouts and 12 parents and leaders. Here is Davids blog on the trip plus photos.

Get Involved. The Group now has a Help Team. Parents will most certainly be hearing from them - and quite probably already have! The objective of the team is to fill roles in the group.
Everyone has skills that can be put to good use for group events, be they professional, a hobby or a lifestyle skill. The old saying the "between all of you, you make the perfect person" is never truer than in a voluntary situation. It is the team effort that counts and to build the perfect team needs the various skills that each of us can offer. The group needs more leaders to secure long term health and success. If putting on a uniform does not appeal then there are many other ways to get involved as a helper or committee member.

Volunteering is both a worthwhile thing to do for others and also a good thing to do for yourself. It is a lifestyle choice that opens the door on life itself, and whilst offering much to many, financially, it costs next to nothing. It can be very rewarding and challenging but best of all is to know you are making a very special contribution to our way life in Britain.

An Executive Decision. Many may have not heard of the Group Executive, but you will have felt its presence. The Exec, as it is known, is made up of section leaders and parent representatives together with a treasurer and secretary who make the decisions required to run the group based on requests from the sections and on requirements of the District, County and the national body, the Scout Association. Interested parents can be voted or co-opted on to the committee.

Get the picture. Group photographs are now located on the flickr website which can be accessed through this website's Gallery page. I am sure there will soon be a large selection to view. If you take (digital) photos yourself of group activities or an event featuring your own child do let a leader know, and we will arrange to put them up for all to view.

Speak out. This website has been set up to improve the distribution of group information to parents and members of the group and to bring the sections together in one place. It is your website so please do speak out about it. We hope to achieve a reduction in the volume of emails sent to parents, once everyone gets used to the idea that all group info is on the website.

Did you know...? Scouting is an international movement with 28 million members worldwide and is open to all regardless of culture or belief. In the UK there are 400,000 young people involved in scouting and in Harrow district some 600.

The Scout Headquarters site https://members.scouts.org.uk/ is a mine of information about everything scouting and is well worth a visit - there are some relevant links below. The 8th/12th Harrow offers, in one way or the other, many of the activities presented on the national site.

Dependent on age, there is a choice of section - Beaver Scouts for those aged between 6 to 8, Cub Scouts 8 to 10, Scouts 10 to 14. Those aged 14 to 18 have the option to join the District Explorer Scouts and from age 18 to 25 the Scout Network. More details on age groups and activities can be found at https://members.scouts.org.uk/cms.php?pageid=1806
